Automatic 5 quarts
5-speed manual 3.4 quarts
6-speed manual 4 quarts

For all of these Mobil 1 ATF is the way to go. Fully-synthetic.

5 quarts is straight out of the Haynes manual.

12 quarts is how much coolant our cars take.

Specs for the 3.8:
Oil: 4.5 quarts
Coolant: 12 quarts
Differential: 2 quarts

EDIT: Just called our local Advance Auto Parts, he looked it up as well just to verify... 5 quarts.

And make sure you get Mobil 1 fully synthetic ATF. Its in a silver bottle (just like regular Mobil 1 oil) but with a black cap. Good stuff.

No way the whole tranny system takes just 5 quarts. That must be just a dry fill number for the tranny. The lines, cooler in radiator, and torque convertor all hold fluid as well. I would guess 9qt at least.

5 quarts is only if you going to drop the pan and change the filter. Its about 11-12 quarts if you want to flush the whole trans. I know Mustangs take exacly 12 quarts cuz i work at the Ford dealership.

Eh, I have a manual so I've never done this myself on an F-Body (done it plenty of times on other cars though), I'm just quoting the Haynes manual... but I'll call our local dealership in the morning to verify.

Are you talking about when you hook it up to a big pump that flushes through the system? That's not part of a normal transmission fluid change and that's definitely not something you can do yourself. You just change the filter and drain what's in there and refill it with 5 quarts every 30,000 miles or 24 months.

Yeah, thats true, but the SlowCamaro96 was asking how much it takes with TC and lines flush. Mustangs have TC drain plug, so its easy to drain the whole trans on them, but F-bodys dont have that. The way i flushed my own trans was i disconnected cooling line for trans fluid that goes into radiator, put drainpan under it and started the car for couple of seconds while putting the fluid in. I managed to put 11 quarts into my trans. Its a very easy way to flush the trans at home.
