My 3.42 gears and my Auburn Pro LSD are getting installed right now! It should be done by the time I get off work at 5. I am pretty excited. Plus the roads are wet right now so I will be a pretty good test of how my car does on wet roads with the LSD. With the open diffy it had no traction on wet roads (probably more tires than anything).
I haven't seen to many people install the Auburn. I will let everyone know how I like it.

even with worn out tires I have all kinds of traction in the rain that i didnt have before lsd. your going to love it. ? though, why did you spend all the extra money on the auburn?

I didn't spend a lot. I bought it from a member here (speedy-v6-camaro). He sold me the 3.42 gears, the Auburn, the reluctor ring, and a full install kit for $450. Hell of a deal if you ask me.
I have my car back and you are correct, although I haven't driven it too much yet, I absolutely love it so far! My traction in the rain was a night and day difference! I can definitely tell both wheels are spinning. It is hard to explain but you can sort of tell it wants to go sideways in the rain but then that other wheel catches and it rights itself.
Then, talk about acceleration! There is no dead spot that I can tell. It used to bog down bad in 3rd gear. It seems to accelerate smoothly the entire power band.
I should have done this along time ago. It is awesome!
And ellik when I was doing some research for the gear swap a couple of months back you helped me out with some informative posts. Thanks for the help!!

LOL... BIG difference. Don't know if you love it because its an Auburn Pro or because its just a limited slip with nice gears. I've lately become a HUGE fan of the take-off Zexel-Torsen but the price you got your Auburn Pro for is unbeatable. Congrats, 3.42/LSD is the way to go. I have that with my 5-speed and I'm perfectly happy.
I can't imagine there is too much difference performance wise between the Auburn and Zexel. I think I love it because it is a LSD.
I haven't noticed too much of an issue with shift points. Nothing that makes me want to run out and get custom programming right away. I think I will hold out for another group purchase on the Westers programming from Tbyrne and until then get a mini-tech edge for speedo recalibration.I have a 99 so the Hypertech isn't an option.
Can't wait until the track opens up next month to see what it does for my times!
