Drive/Overdrive?

Well I know that drive is three gears and that overdrive is 4 gears. But it's strange when I put it in Drive. If I leave it in drive and go up to about 60 and let off the gas. Its at about 2,000 to 2,300 rpm. If I give it a little gas, it doesn't do much, If i give it a lot of gas it wont do anything for a few seconds then hits 3,500 rpm or higher (depending on how hard I hit the gas) and gives me a sudden boost in power, kinda like it feels like when it shifts down. Now how could that be? It should be in 3rd gear and should hit higher RPM immediately right? Should it stall for a couple seconds? Its just like when I have it in overdrive, its at about 1,500 rpm at 55 mph when i'm just letting it cruise, then when I hit it, it goes into 3rd gear and hits over 3,000 rpm, it feels like that in drive. Is that normal?

Well if you have the 3.42 gears, the car could actually be shifting into 2nd. For my A4 the shifts go like this:

1-2 - 40MPH
2-3 - 78MPH
3-4 - 111MPH
4 (limiter) - 119MPH

Mine goes like 48 in 1st gear. And about 84 in second to third. I drive in OD only when im going over 45. And D all the other times.

you have 3.08s then right? but then again you say you "kind of" have Y87 in your sig so WTF?

I'm not sure what my gears are, I think 3.08. Its a 1994 3.4L automatic.

ALL 3.4's had 3.23.
