• Clarification on speedo recal after gear install

I had always planned on recalibrating my speedometer with the TechEdge mini spedo recalibrator after my swap from 3.08 to 3.42 gears.

However, I did some more searching today and came upon this thread where it is mentioned that the TechEdge doesn't work with an automatic transmission:

http://www.camarov6.com/ubb/ultimate...=002489#000005

Could someone clarify whether this is the case or not? The intense-racing.com site where the TechEdge can be purchased mentions nothing about it being for manual transmissions only.

Anyone have any insight?

Ok, I emailed intense-racing.com and they said it will work with an automatic transmission:

Mike:

This device WILL work on your car. You just need to get a PCM pinout diagram,
and locate the 4k/mile wire going to the speedometer.

Hope this helps.

Where can I get a pinout diagram and what is a "4K/mile" wire?

the 4K/mile wire is the one that tells the PCM the cars warrwetny just expired and cuases something to "break" lol

It works fine with automatic transmissions.

You don't need the pinout diagram..just order the unit and follow the instructions it comes with. It's a very easy install.

The problem, from what I gather in that other thread, is that the TechEdge unit only adjusts the signal going from the PCM to the speedometer. So even though you see the correct mph, your computer still thinks you're going a different speed. It will therefore shift at the speed it thinks is correct, which is completely wrong.

Oh ok, so what they meant in that thread was that it doesn't correct shift points. I already knew that.

I will just use the TechEdge until a group purchase of the Westers programming comes along again.

So far the shift points aren't bothering me. They don't seem to far off.

mine actually shifts better with the incorrect shift points from 3.08-3.42 gear swap.

viper, thanks for two very informative posts in my thread, I feel much more enlightened now.

ellik, I was almost starting to think the same thing! Although that could just because we don't have proper shift points to compare it to. It could be if we ever get them corrected we look back and realize the shift points were crap
