Transmission Rebuild

hey guys,

so my car has been out of commission for a few months now. I had a few mechanics check it out and they agree that i need to have my tranmission rebuilt. All gears work and shift perfectly but it takes my car forever to get speed. I have the SES light on, so its about time i rebuild my tranny. The car has about 118K miles. I know a mechanic that will rebuild my tranny back to driveable statis for $800 but i want it to be better and last longer. So basically i need your help on what to get. I know Kala and David (DMW) have rebuilt their transmissions so maybe you guys can help me.

what should i be looking forward to and where can i get it?

Vanbibber suggested a shift kit and aluminum driveshaft.
what kind of shift kit should i get? (can someone knowledge me on this)
- torque converter?
whats a corvette server?

Any help is appreciated!

BTW: Its a 1995 3.8L A4 with 3.42's.

upgraded clutches will help the transmission hold more power and wear better. Upgraded servos are bigger servo's than stock, meaning a bigger area which allows for more clamping force during shifts. the servo's used in the corvette's are bigger than ours, meaning it'll help our cars shift quicker and harder. The shift kits help it shift quicker due to more fluid pressure. If you get a custom torque converter, get one from edge racing. their tc's are great. I've had mine for 3 years without problems and my tranny is stock except for tuning.

im definitely getting a Transgo Shift Kit and aluminum driveshaft. Im not sure about the corvette server, where can i buy this?

what about transmission coolers? are they necessary?

have u looked into buyin a tranny thats already been rebuilt, there are HD trannys u can get for about 1500-2000. thats the way to go.

as far as shift kits go, the place that builds the tranny, should be able to do a custom shift kit, and also when i bought my trans go years ago, it came with a vette servo.

tranny coolers are always a good idea, dunno if u need it, but why not.

No, actually i didn't rebuilt my transmission. I was having stiff shifting 1-2 which is common sign for TCC not locking up (p1870). so i just had a local transmission shop "update" the valve body so that i don't have rebuilt the trans. so far it's good (knock on wood!) If you want to rebuid your trans go to you local transmission shops to get quote. I have also seen some on ebay at a reasonable price and also checkout the driveterrain section on www.cz28.com ..

yeah do the stage 3 transgo shift kit and a corvett or raptor servo. I have the stage 3 and raptor and love it! If I had had the money at the time I would have also have had it built with better clutch packs and kevlar bands.
