  • LSD questions

i have tried to search for this and haven't found anything, so i am sorry if it is already out there.

thought that i would weigh my options before deciding what to do, money is big concern.

i know that some z28 and trans-am models came with LSD stock
what is the stock lsd type and gearing for the those?
would it be better to change entire rear axle, or just the diff?

where is a good place to look for a zexel-torsen?
do the zexel-torsens come in different ratios?

    Re: LSD questions

You want a LSD for a gm 10bolt 7.5 with 28 spline. Ebay usually has good takeoff LSDs, good place to start looking. I myself got a complete rear end off of a z28 and that came with an eaton posi, 3.42 gears, and i picked up disc brakes too. I would highly suggest going that route too. I would go here and look for a RWD axle assembly. They will show tons around where you live, or close to it. http://www.car-parts.com Honestly, between getting new gears, limited slip, install kit, and labor if u dont put them in yourself, i would expect close to 800$. The whole rear end i bought cost me 400$ and had only 56,000 miles on it, and everything is sound so far. The install wasnt too bad, just a little time consuming.

      Re: LSD questions

thanks very much , also i heard that tcs makes a difference, my car is tcs equipped, what do i need differently for that?

also i have a friend that will be helping me do it, he is a licensed mechanic, so it won't cost any labor - just parts.

Good deals for posi's can be hard to come by. Jump on it fast if you can find a decent deal.
