Re: Question about gears and differential
If you have an auto then you have 3.08 if you have a manual you have 3.23, 3.42's are a good upgrade for autos.
You have an open differential which means that only one tire will spin when you do a burnout (you can test this out to make sure)Old Car = 12.679 @ 106.5 on 150 dry shot.
New Car = 2010 3.6l 304hp Camaro

Re: Question about gears and differential
Yes, if you have an auto without the y87 package, then you should have 3.08's with an open differential.
Check the drivetrain section of the modification encyclopedia. Theres information on each of the gear choices that you have, and that should help you decide whats best for you. Do you drive the freeway alot? or mostly just city driving? Im going to be upgrading to 3.42's eventually. I'd like to go higher, but i drive 2 hours on the freeway to get to and from school, so that wouldnt be the best choice for me.
Heres the link to the drivetrain section http://mods.firebirdv6.com/drivetrain.html

Re: Question about gears and differential
60$ is a great price for an LSD, assuming it's in good condition.
In personal opinion an LSD is a must have for anyone modding there car, it helps you put much more power to the ground, and it looks better to have both wheels spinning when you do a burnout. Not to mention that the donuts are great.Old Car = 12.679 @ 106.5 on 150 dry shot.

Re: Question about gears and differential
Hey i actually drive both city and highway...Its basically both ways! So i should get the LSD for 60 than? I also found the 3.42 gears for about 10.00 dollars right now on ebay but there is still days left.....Hopefully i can get it for that much! If someone is selling a 99 Trans am LSD not Ws6 thats what i would need right?

Re: Question about gears and differential
Hey XCDARRELL are you still willing to sell the 3.42 gears? The differential that i am talking about the guy states that it came out of a 1990 trans am with the 10 bolt rearend, 28 spline, and the crown measured 7 5/8's...is this what im needing? Also there is a picture of it below!

Re: Question about gears and differential
Cost me about $100 in parts [bearings, seals and such] and fluids and $300 in labor. If the LSD is $60 and in good shape, and the correct one for your car JUMP ON THAT DEAL! They are getting harder to find.
I picked up a used one for $60 that turned out to be junk. Found a takeoff one [almost zero miles] for $110 and it works fabulously...\'00 f-bird 3.8 M5 coupe, pewter metallic
Torsen LSD, Pro 5.0 shifter, Spec stage 1 clutch, Y87 muffler, aftermarket stereo
-more fun than the Oldsmobile it replaced...
