I have a 98 camaro with the 5-speed manual tranny, which years camaros will have a direct replacement for this transmission?
I'm pretty sure mine is about to go, it's making some odd clanking noises, not while it's in drive, but when I have the clutch pushed in and am sitting or rolling. It still drives and pulls strong when its in gear. Any ideas what this might be?
Yeah 93-02 should work fine. Check the manual tranny fluid first though. You may be running low or the fluid is in horrible condition, creating poor lubrication which could cause the clanking noises you hear. I replaced mine not too long ago, and it was pretty bad. I couldn't tell a difference, but i know the gears are happier and i prolonged their life. The transmission has a drain plug on the bottom, and a fill plug at the top, you gotta get up under the car to check it though. Take the top plug out and stick your pinky in there and see where the fluid level is, if no fluid comes out when u take the plug out. If the fluid looks old and dirty, take the bottom plug out and drain it. Go buy some ATF mercon/dexron III and go find something like a big syringe, not the needle kind, but a plastic one, and fill the case back up until it starts pouring out the top. Thats a cheap task to try before you start getting real deep into the problem. How many miles are on your car, and how do you treat your clutch?

I flushed out the old tranny fluid completely last summer, did about 3 changes to get all the old stuff out. I havn't checked it since though.
I have a spec stage III clutch that I put in last summer, should be in great shape.
Almost 80k on the tranny, and how do I treat it? Well... 85 shot of nitrous and recently about 20 launches at the track including several recently with Nitto DRs and trying to spray off the line...in other words, I dont treat it very well and was kind of expecting this.

while 93-95 3.4Ls had an external slave with a clutch fork
I also believe the input shafts are diferent.
but I know 96-02 all are interchangeable sensors and all.

I checked the fluid level, full and still a good looking red just like straight out of the bottle.
Now that I think about it more, I think it may be a clutch thing. It only makes the noise when I have the clutch pushed in. The car runs fine while in gear with no odd noises. What part of the clutch would go bad to make a rattling or clanking sound when the clutch pedal is depressed.
