I think my synchronizers in my transmission are going :(

So how much would it run to get them replaced? I just had my Stage 2 Spec Clutch installed about 1,000 miles ago. Everything was ok, but it seems now that it's hard to get into gear, especailly up shifting, especially from 1st to 2nd. even after that it takes some push to get to 3rd and some pull to get to 4th and yes some push to get to 5th, plus when shifting to reverse, about half the time, I hear the lovely grinding sound, because the synchronizers did not line up. :( Before I had the Stage 2 clutch installed, I did have problems going from 1st to 2nd sometimes, I figured it was just my clutch, but I guess I was wrong. Wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Or is it that the stage 2 clutch just makes it hard to shift. I have never driven a car with a racing clutch before, so maybe it's just me, and I'll have to get use to it. Thanks for any info you can give.

i think the reverse noise you hear is normal on our T5. Mine does the same thing, after i heard it grind a few times, i push the shifter all the way over, throw it up in 5th then down to reverse, and presto, no grinding. As for the clutch replacement, the shifting should feel the same, but the feeling in the clutch pedal should feel pretty different. Do you have a short-shifter too by the way? When i put my short shifter on, my throws required a little more effort, but that is the nature of the shifter.

It honestly doesn't sound like your Synchro's are bad. Maybe you have some air bubbles in the clutch fluid or maybe it's time to flush out the old fluid and out in some new dot 3 stuff.

I've had a similar problem like you are describing too. I was ready for a clutch change, then maybe a trans overhaul. It was as simple as changing the Dextron III fluid in the trans. I know it sounds dumb, but thats all it was!!! After the fluid change, it shifted GREAT! I had about 55k miles on the old fluid. I also changed the clutch fluid (dot 3) at the same time.

I was just about to start a thread on this. I'm having a very similar problem with getting into first and at times into second. Thought it was the sychros too, but thanks to the responses I hope I have my answer!

Well, I looked at my clutch fluid today, it looks old... ? Which it should be new unless they did not change it when they put my new stage 2 clutch on about 1,000 miles ago. Something kinda strange is, early this morning when it was pretty cool out, I started the Camaro up, and for about a mile, it shifted pretty easy, and then after about a mile, I was back to the same as my first post. Although, it does seem to go in easier if I shift fast, instead of slow. I'm thinking about taking her back and having them put new Dot 3 fluid in there. I might do it, I was reading in my haynes manual(guess that'z how it's spelled) and for 98's and up, it seems pretty easy to bleed. I have a 2000 by the way. :)

Well, first thing I need to take care of is the 3 codes I'm getting. I'm getting two P1336 codes which is misfires, and a P0133 which is a bad 02 sensor in Bank 1 Sensor 1, which I think that is the driver side header sensor. I'm going to make another post about the codes. I need to get the misfire taken care of. I just replaced my spark plugs today, and it's still misfiring when I pull out. :(

Changing the clutch fluid isn't that hard to do...if you have someone helping. It's basically just like bleeding your brakes.
You can change the trans fluid yourself. There is a drain plug at the bottom. Filling it back up is a little tricky if you don't have a pump. You CAN fill it through the shifter hole, but you'll have to remove the shifter to access it (duh).

Just because they changed your clutch doesn't mean that they changed the fluid. Did you have a new clutch master cylinder installed when the Stage II was put in?

If it were me, I'd do both just for the satisfaction of knowing that both fluids are new and that there isn't any air in your hydraulic clutch lines.

Yeah, I changed the transmission fluid last Wed. because I was going to a car show this past weekend. So it's fresh trans fluid. :) however the clutch fluid does look old, so I will need to add new to it. I'm hoping that will fix my problem with the rough shifting.

It may be common but its not normal. I purchased a used 2000 firebird with 45K miles on it from a dealer. They stressed that i buy the 3 year 30K mile warranty for 2K. Well I did. If im paying 2K for a warranty im getting everything i want that is covered. Well the 3rd tranny later they finally got it right. I have about 2K miles on it now and it shifts soo smooth it almost shifts itself! It never makes that grind going into reverse like my first 3 trannys did. Im not sure what causes that slop but it wasnt repeated in this last tranny/install.
