was figuring on a centerforce dual friction clutch, but what would be a good lightweight flywheel to use with it? Centerforce doesn't make one from what i can tell.
also the T.O. bearing is there any reason to get the centerforce bearing, or is an OEM replacement just as good?
I have a TO bearing from a Spec stage 1 kit just sitting around. It's new, and I'd be more than willing to part with it for cheap.
It didn't end up getting used because my shop used the TO bearing included in the slave cylinder kit I had them install.
BTW, I'm pretty sure Spec sells a lightweight flywheel for our cars, but I really don't hear about people using lightweight flywheels in general on the f-bodies. Dunno why...
\'00 f-bird 3.8 M5 coupe, pewter metallic
Torsen LSD, Pro 5.0 shifter, Spec stage 1 clutch, Y87 muffler, aftermarket stereo
-more fun than the Oldsmobile it replaced...
what kind of response difference would i see with just the clutch, i also do not have any idea how much a TO bearing goes for, but throw out a price and i may be interested, not in a hurry though i am just trying to start getting parts for everything together.
I think the Spec is the only lightweight flywheel sold for our cars.
I felt a little difference at WOT with mine in, biggest notice is that you need to rev a bit more and slip more when launching since the engine isn't carrying so much momentum.

Intake, exhaust, just about every suspension part, alum flywheel & ds, Turn One p/s pump and cooler
I think they usually go for $50-55 or thereabouts. Mine's literally just sitting around in a ziploc bag which does me no good... I'd sell it for $20 shipped to the lower 48 states.

hey i will probably go for that, let me know how to get in touch with you and if you have paypal i might be able to do that after friday. it is the same thing for a 1997 firebird right, i did not know if the years make a difference.
Like zlexiss said spec is the only light weight flywheel offered for our cars. You don't see many people with them because most people are into drag racing and it makes for a harder launch.
so i guess if i want to reduce rotational mass on the crank i should head to lighter driveshaft???
i have to drop the tranny soon, so i was going to do all of this at once if i could get the parts together n time, but if light flywheel isn't a good idea then i will just get the clutch. also curious how important is flywheel resurfacing if i don't replace the flywheel with the clutch?
i just did my clutch and decided to go with a oem flywheel. mine was fine but did have 60k on it and since i was getting a new clutch why not just do the flywheel too. it only saves a few lbs and it's a he1l of alot more money.
if you want to save a few lbs it's cheap to go on a diet. hehe
i got a head start on ya there, already started the diet about 2 weeks ago, but for different reasons!
yeah, i guess i will check into resurfacing or new oem replacement.
BTW i read somewhere that a pound of rotational mass is like taking 15 lbs off the car, so 4 lbs would be like cutting 60 off the car, i don't have that much to lose, but i can give 45 a go!
The new TOB comes with SPEC kit for a reason ,and Centerforce has their TOB with self centered bearing section too. The one that comes with the slave is pos, cheap "will do" replacement compare to the aftermarket.
the shop dont replace those because it "saves" them a few minutes, and because they dont care.
Have your flywheel resurfaced, and install every single part that comes with SPEC kit or buy N1777 for Centerforce DF.
I think you need to use the CF TOB with the CF clutch, like you can't use anything but a CF one.
As for the Spec TOB, it looks like its the same exact thing as a new OEM.(it does look different then my original TOB)
