Well, my old transmission is giving up the ghost quickly. And I don't blame it after 182,000 miles of excellent service. :D The third gear synchro just went, and it pops out of 2nd randomly. I figure the car deserves a new one.

I just ordered a T5 with 50K miles, as well as a LUK slave cylinder. My Spec1 clutch is in excellent condition and I can't afford to replace it now anyway, so I won't be doing the clutch.

Any pointers on getting this done smoothly?

I will be using a full vehicle lift...that's gonna be nice.

Ok, I've got a question. How much fluid does the manual transmission require? Should I get any additives?

takes about 4 quarts. No additives necessary.

Thanks terminaldegree. Now here's another question. The shop I'm using the lift at will only be open 7 hours a day. Can I do this in 7 hours with the help of a friend? We're both pretty knowledgeable when it comes to cars. (although he is a mustang guy lol)

We're pulling the tranny, putting a new slave on the new tranny, putting in an aluminum DS, and putting it all back together. No clutch work.

You can do it in 7hrs if you work steady and are careful.

Alright, well I'm starting on the swap noon today. If anyone has any last pointers on getting this sucker out and the new one in...now is the time! :)

I'm really hoping that my clutch fluid leak problem is the slave cylinder(which I'm also replacing), cause I already replaced the master without any trouble.

But if my clutch hydraulics are still leaking after the slave swap, should I blame it on the clutch line between the master and slave?

Well after 6 straight hours of work, my car now has a new slave and T5. Everything works great, the clutch system doesn't leak fluid like a sieve any more, and I even welded up a few pinholes in my exhaust. :)

However, I do have one slight problem. From somewhere in the transmission area, when I'm not in gear and idling. I hear a slight ticking sound. Revving will mostly drown out the sound, but it does get a little faster I think. Could this possibly be the thin metal shroud that goes between the bellhousing and the motor?
