  • aftermarket shifter for 5 speed?

Whats the best aftermarket shifter upgrade for my stock 5 speed?

I have seen B&M and hurst in a jegs catalog are they any good?

interested in a shorter throw type, not diggin my tall stock shifter.

Tons of threads on this if you search, but there really isn't a good answer.

Everyone will come in here and tell you "get X shifter it's what I have and it's the best". The fact is all three shifters available for our cars are good quality and get the job done. There are really only two differences; pricing and handle length. The B&Ms handle can not be changed while the Hurst and PRO 5.0 have handles that can be unbolted and exchanged for a shorter version.

If you want short throws and are ok with the long handle like the stock shifter the B&M may be for you. If you want short throws and a shorter handle then go with the PRO 5.0 or the Hurst.

      Thanks for the help!

Now how hard is it to change one over?

Changing is not much... removing the console, removing the boot, weather boot and then 4 bolts.

My choice was Hurst with Lou Shortstick, topped by Momo shift knob. Very short shifts and fun! If you google the shortstick, you'll see it's a solid round stock.

It looks long, but it's super easy.

That is correct, I've driven a few different one's and this one is my favorite setup so far.
