  • Name of a clutch part...

Alright, so about a month ago I put in a new slave cylinder and transmission.

The slave cylinder I got was a cylinder with a spring. Cool, I thought.

When I actually opened up the existing transmission I found a cylinder exactly like the original as well as the spring (I belive it's the return spring). However, there was also a black plastic piece (with a bearing on the front side)that fit over the cylinder and sandwiched the spring into the assembly. I didn't have that plastic piece on my new slave, so I just popped it off the old slave and put it onto the new slave.

Is that black plastic piece with the bearing the Throwout Bearing?

I need to know, because I think it's what's causing my loud clutch noise. Everytime I depress the pedal I hear a sound similar to a saw cutting wood. It sounds like something is pressing on something else that is spinnning. In addition to that, when the clutch pedal not pressed, I get a sqeaking sound from the transmission, like a belt sqeak. I HAVE to find this noise, it's driving me crazy. I think it's that black piece that's my problem. Possibly I didn't put it on right? I just popped it onto the slave. Is that the correct way to do it?

that is the throw out bearing and it sounds like it is going out. When my cluch went out there was a lot of vibration in the cluch pedal and shifter handel.

Ok thanks for the reply! Yeah, my pedal definitely vibrates a TON when I depress it. So does the throw out bearing come with the plastic piece? Are there any special ways to install it? Because it didn't ever make any noise until I replaced the slave and I keep wondering if I put something in wrong.

yes the throwout bearing comes with the plastic piece. but i would look at the cluch disk for wear and most likely replace it because i know it is a major pain in the butt to get to the cluch so replace it and resurface the flywheel. just to know that if it happens again that it is something else.
FYI flywheel bolts will only hold 35 foot pounds i ended up breaking 3 because i had the wrong info.

          Alright...one more question.

Is there any special procedure for putting the TO bearing onto the slave cylinder? I just pressed mine on after lining it up with the grooves, but I'm afraid I did it wrong and that's what caused it to go. Don't want to make the same mistake this weekend. :)

Haha, well I put in the new TO bearing last night...as I was pulling the tranny away from the engine, a bunch of BBs fell out...yep, it was the TO bearing. It was complete toast. :D
