  • Stock gear ratio

    I have a small problem. I cant figure out what my stock gear ratio is for my car. I no longer have a tag on my drivers side door to check the RPO code or anything. I've searched and havnt come up with anything. Its a 5-spd, 3.8 series 2, 1996 camaro RS. I just need to know if its a 3.08 or a 3.23... even though im guessing its a stock 3.23. Any help would be appreciated.

      ^^^ Correct. You have 3.23's. 3.08's were put the automatics.

        5-SPeed = 3.23s

        Also check your glove box there may be RPO codes in there as well to see if you have an LSD.

            It would barely be noticeable. I'd go with 3.73s. Its a great balance.

            4.10's = Overkill, but doable.
            3.73's = Good power / driveability
            3.43's = Almost stock.

                Eh, you'd feel them. But by experience, and by most everyones oppinion, 3.73 is a more aggressive gear, and is perfect for our cars. I myself went 4.10's and they are too aggressive for a daily driver, but could still be functional.

                Its all in what you want the car for. Do you want gas mileage or acceleration?

                  i need a good combo of both mgp and a quicker acceleration..so 3.73s are my best bet?

                  now how do i calibrate the computer to not send my odometer through the roof?

                      Reprogram your PCM and you'll have to replace a gear behind your speedo. All in all, I dont think its worth it to recalibrate it. Just keep with the flow of traffic. And hey, if you ever get pulled over, you can always say "Improper equipment!" :D

                            Thats odd. I had to. I had my PCM flashed when I put in my cam and gears, and it still read wrong. So I replaced the gear behind the speedo and it fixed it. Idk.
