I have a 97 Firebird 3.8L T-5. the t-5 is toast and I have seen many t-5's on e-bay but most seem to be from v8 and v6 3rd gens. what will bolt up to my application?? I don't really care much about gear ratios. I just want to know what will physically go in to my car? what about the t-56? will it fit?

Re: t-5 apps
This is a good question that no one ever seems to have a positive answer to. No the t-56 will not fir, and right now there are no simple conversion kits to make it work. It would take a custom made bellhousing at the least to have it match up.
As far as which T5 trannys are interchangable between years, I have no idea, but would love to know, since I broke 3rd gear last Sunday.Old Car = 12.679 @ 106.5 on 150 dry shot.

Re: t-5 apps
The input shafts might be different but a big problem is the spedometer.
don't older GM 5-speeds use a manual cable, while current ones use a electronic one.-Eric
2000 NBM V6 Camaro 5-speed T-top converted
14.467@95.45mph $0 in mods
The member formerly known as MustangEater8251
