T-5 to T-56 swap is it poss???

I have a 99 camaro t-5 and was curious about putting a six speed in for better mileage and strength.

I know that it won't bolt right up.

At the very least you need to get a bellhousing that will mount to the 3.8.

I believe you'd also possibly need to get a V8 crossmember.

I've also heard something about the speed sensor not working with our wiring harness. If that's true you might have to convert to the Z-28 155mph speedometer.

Just so you know... With a stock gear ratio, it will hurt your performance bad. You will need to put pretty big gears in, and that might or might not kill your milage... Donno... It's a toss up.

I wouldnt even mess with it...if your want 6 speed...do engine swap ls1 + T-56.

I'm sure if you put in some 3.73s, it'd be okay. But...

The T56 is basically a 5-speed, but instead of one overdrive gear, it has two.

So you won't really have more fun, just more gas mileage (maybe).

Any engine/transmission swap is "possible". Very few are easy or in any way worth the trouble. This isn't one of the very few.

yes you could work it out...


but honestly in the end it might be cheaper to put a ls1+6-speed into your car then it is to get a custome bellhousing adaptor and a custom input shaft for the tranny, then get the speedo to work right.


if you need strength convert to auto, or buy a built T5.

Actually the cheapest solution is to BUY a LT1/LS1 car because even the last few years of the f-bodies are going for under $20k now. You can get LT1 cars for under $10k easy.
