Re: driveshaft problem
I made the same mod to my driveshaft 3 months ago, after killing 2 2 piece shafts. This was before I heard about the aluminum shafts. Got mine off a Z28. I notice on mine when I am on the highway some times and have to brake quickly I hear and feel a vibration... I wonder if I am having the same problem as you.
I guess what I am getting at is how did you know yours had become lose. Were you hearing it? I have thought that I needed to replace my u-joints, but I guess I really just need to get underneath and check it out...To bad it's raining.

Re: driveshaft problem
Thanks for the response. I will be getting under there this week or weekend to see what the deal is. I still have both my old shafts so I will pull the caps and put them on the new one. Thanks for the advice.

Re: driveshaft problem
I am hearing/feeeling vibration up by where it goes into the transmission, or at least that is where I think I am hearing it. I am questioning the trans mount at the moment as well, but I didn not notice this until the 1 piece shaft. Also I am wondering if the u joints on mine might be bad.
Question - On the one piece shaft you got was there a big dough nut looking thing on the end that went into the trans? The 1 piece I got had one, but the 2 piece that was on my car did not. After talking with a guy who was going to rebuild my ds for $200, he suggested I knock that off. He said when he does a shaft for a camaro whether 2 piece or 1 piece he says he replaces all with a 1 piece and that if it has the big dough nut on there he knocks it off. I was un aware of this before I put mine on so I have not removed it yet. As he put it, that just gets in the way...

Re: driveshaft problem
Hmmm, I didn't know you could take that off ... I get a nasty little vibe at appx 60-63 mph with my 1pc ... might have to crawl under there tonight and look.\'97 Firebird 3.8 ... 1/4 mile = 12.50 (minutes)

Re: driveshaft problem
I was TOLD that you can take it off by a guy who rebuilds drive shafts. His exact words were "Get a mini sledge hammer and see if you can't knock it off of there".... He made it sound like it was not real easy to do, but could be done...
