So, I wanna get this kit installed before I go run my car at the tracks but I'm not really sure which one to get. http://www.transmissionspecialty.com...7754-COMBO.htm
Whats the difference between PWM and non-PWM? Whats an EC3??? Can someone that already had the kit installed tell me which part # I need to order? My transmission has never been rebuilt, original factory GM 4L60E.
Don't worry about the part number of the kit. Find a local transmission parts supply company who also rebuilds transmissions. Ask them if they will modify the TCC valve in your valve body with the Sonnax kit if you bring it to them. I would bet 10 to 1 that they will do it for you. They will make sure the right kit is used and they will use the proper 2 step reamer that is required to fit the new valve in the valve body. If you try to do this yourself the reamer will cost you about $160.00 US. (not worth it for one use).
So all you have to do is drop the tranny pan, remove the valve body, and take it to the shop for mod. It will take them about an hour to do it. Then your on your way home to throw it together.
Now Playing: \'99 Pewter Firebird, stock, bone stock, and nothing but stock, so help me God!<br />Comming attractions: K&N Filter, Lid Mod, Intake Bellows Smooth Pipe Mod.<br />I dream about: Forced Induction (TC or SC) or NOX (or both!)
Thinking about having this done, had the 1-2 hard shift problem for about 3yrs is it too late to do this now? Also how much would this cost if you brought the valve body to a shop?

The determine the condition of your tranny check the condition of the fluid. Is it dark (not see through), smells burnt, or contains particles of any kind then you could have further problems.
You can also drop the transmission pan and inspect the filter for condition and contaminents. Again, same deal. If you find chunks and pieces, you got bigger problems. It's ok to find some small debris and a dark paste like residue, especially around the magnet which is stuck to the pan.
The torque converter found in our 99' V6 F-body (my FB is a 99' also) uses a braided carbon cloth for the clutch face. My trans guy tells me he has never seen the carbon braid burnt up, even with transmissions that had severe overheat damage elsewhere in the trans. Older torque converters used a solid carbon ring and he showed me one that was heat damaged. It was all cracked up and flaking.
It cost me Approx $100.00 (thats canadian dollars) for them to modify my valve body when I brought it to them.

it cost my brother $300 to upgrade his valvebody kit at the local shop. He threw the p1870 code a couple times on long hot trips, so he wanted to get it fixed right away.
