  • installing rear end next week

finally got all the parts for the rear end install. anything special that goes with this install? i hear its pretty much bolt-off and bolt-in. its a 1996 formula rear end with disc brakes going on a 94 camaro with drum brakes. anything i need to look out for? i'll be swapping out the rear sway bar, the front sway bar, and a few other parts as well. what kinda problems or setbacks can i expect to run in to? or is the whole install fairly straight-forward?

...I thought you did this already

Anyhow, nothing to be worried about. It's a straight bolt on.

    ~Tips:
-You need Emergency Brake Cables for the Disk Brakes. Drum Brake Cables will NOT work!
-Change the Differential Fluid! Also, go to a GM Dealer and get a small bottle of Additive for about $5-$8, and you add it to the diff fluid. I went with a Synthetic Blend 80w-90 Fluid I bought at Autozone.
-I bought new rotors, brake pads, bleeder screws, and a BIG container of brake fluid so I could bleed the whole system when I was finished.
-I also rebuilt the calipers before installing them. The guide pins inside were dry and needed to be greased badly! Pic of Guide Pins, #2
-Hold on to your old axles!! Just incase you find that one of the axles from the rear is bent, you can interchange them without worry.

This quote for Differential Fluid was taken from Autozone:

    Differential Fluid Type

    For your 1996 Chevrolet Camaro:

    Differential Capacity 1 3/4 Quarts

Forgot to add that it will also be a good time to change your rear shocks if yours are in bad shape.:)
