  • 4.10 gear

I'm going to be putting 4.10's in my 95 Camaro 3.4 with a 5 speed over the winter and I have a few questions.

    1. I'm buying 4.10's on Thursday when I get paid. They are for a 2 series carrier so will I need a spacer or not?

    2. I'm probably going to get an lsd also. So does it matter what type of carrier the lsd is for? Or is there a certain type of lsd I have to get?

    3. How much is a reasonable install quote from a shop? I'll probably have my uncle put them in. He has his own shop and lift.

no more than $300 for sure
if the gears are 3 series they will not fit a 2 series LSD
    good luck

The gears i'm getting are a 2 series. So I'll probably get a 2 series lsd also.

I'm pretty sure my uncle won't charge me that much. He once worked on my Ranger for 1.5 days and only charged me like $135. The problem is talking him into it. He thinks everything should be left alone stock:tdown:

        Re: 4.10 gear

If you're replacing the gears and the carrier, why not get both 3 series? Unless you're getting some awesome deal on 2 series gears?

Also if you go 2 series, you will need to make sure to get a carrier with the reluctor gear on it because your ABS will not work without it, and your existing 3 series ring won't fit.

4.10's on an OEM Zexel Torsen carrier require either grinding the ring gear and/or block slightly or using a 2-piece paddle kit, available from SLP. Other aftermarket carriers may also require modification to fit, check with the manufacturer. Something to keep in mind when selecting your LSD.

          What's the difference between a 2 series and a 3 series carrier?

Just a different size. 3 series stuff is more common and easier to find.

Your gonna need an install kit with that. Another $70. Im pretty sure that it is 5 hours charge for that job. Depending on what the shop charges that should run you from $300 to $400.

                Re: 4.10 gear

4.10s in a 3.4 sounds a little underpowered for such large of gear
unless you are going FI, N/A is just a little weak
                N/A and 4.10s on a v8 would be great

I have 4.10s in my auto 3.8 and love them! I kinda shoulda gotten 3.73s for more highway travel speeds & MPG since its an auto.
                hope you like the 4.10s!

I was thinking of the exact same upgrades, what kind of power gain (approx) are you looking at??

gears won't give you any more power

yea, they actually reduce your HP but you do accelerate faster
