Well my clutch started slipping today. So I went home and checked the fluid and it was like a dark brown color. But there was some stuff stuck on the side of the reservoir. I dont know what it was. I let a couple of people look at and none of us could figure out what it was. I added some fluid cause it was a little low. My car only has 80k miles on it. So I need to know where is the best place to look for a clutch kit. A couple of people told me it would cost about a grand for a garage to install it, is that true? And is it really hard to change a clutch in V6 camaro. My friends dad has a Z28 and they spent a day putting it in. I just need some advice to where to look for a clutch and if anyone has put a clutch in there camaro/firebird and how hard it is.

Re: Clutch
the thing to keep in mind is that although the clutch job really isnt a very difficult one its just extremely involved. if you go to a shop and bring your own parts your looking at at least $500-$600. we dont have the easiest transmissions to work with. go out and buy a haynes manual from pepboys and it gives you a pretty good step by step that is pretty good. although it doesnt tell you everything its something to start from at least.
as far as where to get the clutch from you could get a cheap one from autozone for $150 including a pressure plate or you could go to ftpp.net and order a performance one. i got a centerforce dual friction clutch for $400 i think. a little expensive but its a durable clutch that can handle up to 300 or more horsepower.
while you already have your transmission out you should do a new slave cylinder, get a new flywheel or at least re-surface yours(must do this), you should drop your oil pan and put in a new oil pan gasket, and you should also do you rear main seal. that takes care of all the preventative maintenance that is easier to do with the transmission out or needs the transmission out to do. will save you a lot of time and the headache down the road. ive had my transmission in and out of my car about 5 times now so if you need any help just go ahead and post on here i can walk you through it without any problem'99 Camaro Y87 M5 T-tops

Re: Clutch
I just got done doing mine a few weeks ago. i got a excedy clutch w/ pressure plate off ebay for 180 shipped. new fly was 80 and slave was 80. i like it so far havent reallly beat on it to bad yet but feels similiar to stock with a little more bite. i did the main seal too(13 bucks) but not the oil pan.
like was said its not a nessecarily hard, but involved. i could also help with any q's, if you do decide to do it yourself.<a href=\"http://cardomain.com/id/articacid\" target=\"_blank\">2002 35th Anniv. Re: Clutch
what you do is put the car on jackstands. get some DOT3 brake fluid. find you clutch fluid resivoir and while the clutch is depressed, open the bleeder valve on the slave cylinder. while the fluid is pooring out keep refilling it at the top. once you see the new fluid coming out the bottom, close the bleeder, then the clutch can be depressed. if the pedal still feels a little soft just sit there and pump it for about 5-10 minutes straight. out slave cylinder is self-bleeding so if you pump it for awhile the air bubbles will work their way out. it helps to have 3 people while doing this. also this may only be a quick fix. still really look into doing your clutch very soon.'99 Camaro Y87 M5 T-tops
