  • HP gain from driveshaft conv.

Has anyone ever dynoed a v6 F body before and after the aluminum driveshaft conversion? I am curious as to the difference in the power put the wheels. I know that the engine will gain no HP from the swap, but the power to the wheels should increase with the swap.

yes, it should free up hp

I cant remember the difference in weight between the aluminum vs steel driveshafts.
If I knew the weight of the 2 I could tell you how much in quarter mile time it gains.

its been stated on here somewhere, a consistent .2 off 1/4 on an otherwise stock car.

ok, so we'll split the difference and take it at about ~.15

my brother had our camaro up at UTI and he dynoed it in at 168 whp with the stock 2 piece steel driveshaft... then after installing the one piece alumin driveshaft it jumped to 187 whp.

figure a 19 whp difference was a lot for just that but... thats what i was told. it wants to pull harder now, i can tell you that much.

19? that seems a bit much, did he have any other mods upon returning? I can see the DS helping your pull out of a dig, but once you get going, it shouldnt play much of a role.

I got mine for like 120 shipped I think. They are v8 takeoffs, not a brand that you buy from jegs or anything like that

The name is Travis and thanks for the compliments on my car. It is a nice little work in progress, lol, building a powerdyne supercharger kit for it and putting it on this winter, should be fun with that nitrous. (don't worry I have a spare block, heads, intakes, etc. lol)

There is a pic of my 3" intake setup on page 3 of my cardomain. I got a 90* elbow from intakehoses.com and then just bent a pipe up in the shop,

I need to update the pics on there sometime, my engine bay has a lot of bling now and I haven't put any pics of that stuff up yet. I got the polished radiator cover, battery and pcm covers, and brake res. cap. Blinds me when I open the hood on a sunny day, lol.

97RsLife, sorry for the thread jack, but with your intake, how hard was it with clearance? Was any parts in teh way when you removed the stock air box and such? Im really close to doing that same mod, because you showed me that intakehoses.com site a few weeks ago. And also, is our TB's oval shaped? Because I was wondering how hard it would be to have the circular 90* elbow stay on to the oval TB....but yeah Im also thinking about a 1 piece DS, would getting a steel one be a disadvantage to the aluminum, besides weight?
