  • 3.23 vs. 3.42

I am having trouble deciding between 3.23 and 3.42 gears. I want better acceleration, but i travel on the highway a bit and I don't want to hurt my gas mileage too much. Could anyone with these two gear ratios tell me what your rpm's are at highway speeds, because right now i run about 2000 rpms at 70 mph.

I have 3.42's in mine. My highway RPM's at 80-85 are like 3000 and I get 22.6 mpg using the mid grade 89 oct. fuel. I actually just filled up this morning and checked my mileage.

well 3.23 are stock gears usually in our cars. so to go up to a 3.42 really won't hurt your gas millage too much. are you an a4 or a m5?

I have a 99 A4 and I checked the rpo codes on the door and apparently I have an open differential with 3.08s.

I was also wondering if anyone who changed their gears could tell me if I could just go to a chevy dealer and have the speedo re-calibrated and how much they charge, or would I have to use pcmforless or texas speed or something like that?
