  • clutch problem, please help!!

i have a 1993 v6 camaro and my clutch basically went to hell becuase of old age and a couple clutch dumps here and there so i decided to replace it.

well i spent all weekend taking it apart and replacing it and putting it back together. got it back together and theres basically no pedal. its like the clutch isnt disengaging. you can start the car when its in neutral but you cannot start it when its in gear, both with the clutch pedal in.

i tried bleeding the system, and a small amount of air came out but still nothing. maybe im missing something but is there an adjustment screw or something somwhere?

    anybody have any ideas?

any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

well i went and worked on it some more last night. i turned the car on and had a friend move the swivel arm the moves the release bearing and the car shifted in and out of gear just fine like it was supposed to. this tells me that the slave cylinder doesnt have enough pressure to move the release arm. ive bled the whole system 2 times now and i cant seem to get any more pressure out of it.

also, after i did the above test, i noticed the clutch pedal get slightly more heavy.

i think i may need to replace the master/slave cylinder

You've got to bleed the stuffing out of these things to get all the air out.

i dont think theres hardly any air left

weve bled it twice now. its getting to the point where there are only 1 or 2 bubbles (if any) and they are almost impossible to see

how much farther do i have to go? until the point where i dont see any bubbles completely?

took me around 5-6 times. and yes, you want NO bubbles at all, and once you do, do it about 2 more times to be safe. how are you bleeding it? above or below?

Keep bleeding it. There cannot be any bubbles. If it worked ok before the clutch replacement then it is probably air and not a bad slave cylinder.

basically just unbolt the slave cylinder and pump the rod and watch for bubbles in the reservoir. hold it below the release bearing arm that comes out of the actual transmission though.

we kept doing it to the point where bubbles would show up like ever 2nd or 3rd time.
