TC's with highe stalls than stock WILL affect the life of the tranny, they cause higher temps which also cause more friction.

it would definetly help, but you need to figure ALMOST EVERY aftermarket part will comprimise the integrity of your motor/trans/diff.

On a drivetrain of that high mileage it might be prudent to get a transmission rebuild with tougher parts and the converter of your choice. If you simply installed a converter now it probably wouldn't hurt anything in the short run, especially with a transmission cooler. If you get a good enough cooler it will run at a low temp, perhaps even lower than stock. Think of it this way: a transmission rebuild at your mileage might not be a bad idea anyway.

If you decide to do this have your transmission thoroughly inspected to make sure everything is ok with it. It would suck to pay to get a converter installed, THEN 10k miles down the line have to pay for a rebuild.

Definitely buy a cooler: I bought an Edge converter and they (Edge) told me that it would not make the tranny run hotter than normal, and for a long time I ran it without a cooler. now i have one installed. If I could go back I would have had one in from the beginning. That just goes to show that without a cooler for many miles, my tranny is still fine (i even had it diagnosed recently by transmission specialists, and everything checks out.) My only concern would be the mileage on the car now (144k is a lot), not necessarily running a converter with a cooler for many miles.

So he can figure slightly less temps with a 3K stall

You were running a 3800 stall, right?
