Should I go 4:10???

Ive been thinking about going to a 4:10 gear. I curretly have a 3:73 gear. If you dont know my car yet Im up to a cam/tune setup now. So would a 4:10 gear be arlight for my car or would it be complete overkill? To check my setup to go to my cardomain: www.cardomain.com/id/firehawknwv

Do it. I have been contemplating the same thing, but the only thing holding me back is that I would have to get another tune. But if you need yours tuned anyway with the cam setup, do it while you are at man! :D

3.73 -> 4.10s isnt that big of a jump and you might not be able to tell.
If it was strictly a drag car... then some people might be telling you to go 4.56s but I wouldnt. That seems like overkill for a N/A 3.8L @ 160rwhp

It will cost you like $400-$500 so i wouldnt

But its $110/hour for the first hour whether you use up the entire hour or not at the place I go to. BTW, he is the only one in my area who can a 3.8 ;) Thats why its not worth it to me, just for clarifiction.

But you are right, it doesnt take anytime at all for the actual tuning itself. :)

The cam was put in back in June thus its been tuend already wth HPTuners. Ive just been pondering getttin a 4:10 lately. Wondered if it would be worth it wiht my seeup or not. I cnat get the gear for 100. I can also get it install rather cheap cuz a uddy of mine is a GM tech certified mechanic. He was the one who installed my cam and valve train.

or is it a dyno tune?

there is more to tuning than just
looking at what AFR Makes good HP/TQ on the dyno

I have HP Tuners... it takes 3 seconds to put in the gear settings into HPT then
30 seconds to write the tune to the car's computer
Done.

Yeah its dyno tuning, I should have clarrified that. I dont have HPT either and now that my car is perfectly tuned its not worth buying.

what would 4:10's do in 1/8 and 1/4 mile times on a stock 3.8? ide like to do that to my 96...but its open differential though...

youd want to replace the open differential with a posi trac/ lsd if you did any kind of gear change
it just makes economical sense
