  • Clutch Problems

On Monday I grenaded the clutch in my '96 3.8. So I got it into the garage and got a new clutch into it as well as new bearing in the transmission, new seals and a new slave cylinder.

We got it all back together, got the air bled out of the system and I drove it home. Right as I got to the driveway at home, I pushed the clutch pedal in and there was nothing there. So I thought maybe I had air in the system. We took it back to the shop and tried to re-bleed the system.

We went through the bleed cycle about 100 times and there was still no change in the pedal, it was just limp. And them I noticed that there was brake fluid coming out of the bell-housing. So I assumed the new slave cylinder was defective. So today we ripped everything back out again and put in a new slave cylinder, got it back together, bled it and everything was working good again. Untill about 1 block away from the house, when the pedal went limp once again and the same thing is happening, I've got brake fluid coming out the bottom of the bellhousing.

So now I'm pretty sure that the slave cylinder is not the problem, because this is the second brand new on e that has done the exact same thing.

So, I want to know what you guys think the problem might be?

The bleed screw is tight, the line seems to be connected properly, yet there is fluid leaking from somewhere on the slave cylinder in side the bellhousing.

    What should I check?

I would prefer not to have to rip the tranny out again, I'm hoping it is a quick fix.

    Any help is much apreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    master clyinder maybe?

the fluid coming out of the bell housing has me a little confused now, but i'd check the master cylinder.
