      Re: Clutch

IIRC, every clutch kit I see around the internet, most of them don't come with the flywheel, but some do. Though, I have yet to see a clutch on the internet that comes with the throwout bearing, so you may want to read closesly on exactly what you are purchasing so there will be no surprises.

Speaking of clutches, I went to a local shop the other day to see how much they wanted to change my clutch on my 97' 3.8l f-bird and they said for parts and labor I was going to be looking at $1600. I'm not sure, but I remember getting a quote years ago and it was a lot less than this. Does anyone think they are trying to screw me royally or is this about right?

        Yea there screwing you.

When i bought my car the clutch was bad so I had the replace it. I got the repair receipt and it was 7 hundredish I think. I was hard on that clutch and it lasted 30k miles or so in just over a year. Alot of trips from Va Beach to Ohio. I had AAMCO changed my clutch out and it was just under a grand I believe. I can find out exactly how much tonight if you want, but it was not 1600

          Re: Clutch

No, somewhere under $1000ish sounds right. I was pretty sure they were screwing me. Now I just have to go and ask them about a few other fixes I knowingly don't want them to do just to see how much they quote me.

Ever since Hurricane Katrina, 3 mechanic shops have been shut down already for price gouging because of all the cars that were submerged under water and getting bad gas the month after the storm when we were able to get gas for our vehicles and what not. Needless to say, still to this day when you go to a mechanic shop, there are 50 or more cars lined up at each one waiting to be fixed. And 8 times out of 10 it's a car that was hurt during the hurricane.....big waiting list as you could imagine.

So, mechanic's saw a quick way to earn extra cash because they knew the people needed their vehicles so they gouged their prices, only to find out that it's against the law. :P
