rear-end swap time!!!

i have a 3.23 with open diff in there now...this is a 3.42 w/ posi rear-end out of a 2000 WS.6...i cleaned and painted it up...plus i got a 1 piece driveshaft for cheap...i mean CHEAP!

i'm sure it won't be that big of a difference but hell the fact that i no longer will do "one tire fires" is worth the price i paid for this rear...it had less than 60k miles on it too!

GAME ON!

so without further adu...or however you spell it...can anyone guess what i'm doing today? :)

Sweet!
Just remember to change the diff fluid if you didn't do so already. It's basically really easy since the rear is in front of you.

yea...i've gotta pull the axles to put the brackets from the brakes on...and then i'm gonna fill it with new mobil 1 synthetic before i put it back in. i can't freaking wait...

wish i could've afforded a dang disc swap conversion or done that too...right now would be the opertune time...but oh well...i got a budget that i gotta stick to.

I beg to differ. With the gears AND the DS you will notice a very nice difference in your acceleration.

well...it's 2:30am...dang what a long day...

so i got the rearend on the ground about an hour and a half after i started, not bad...couple rusted bolts...

then the 2 piece driveshaft gave me a heck of a time, couldn't figure out for the life of me how to get that out...

then after getting that out, i spent about...2 hours trying to get the right rear brake line off...gave up...came back an hour later and ended up slicing my finger to the bone and having to go to the ER.

after spending a total of about 2 and a half hours in the ER, i got out, decided i was gonna get some bigger vicegrips so i went to Lowes, got those and a rubber mallot to get off the brake drums and headed back.

i didn't care what the nurse said i was getting this done. went back got the brake line off in less than 30 minutes got it inside and then fell into ANOTHER hard ship...

the bolt that releases the center cylinder to hold the axles apart was COMPLETELY striped...CRAP! so i drilled as much as i could...ended up bashing the crap out of it and then getting it out, an hour and a half later...

then after that it took me about an hour to convert everything over to the new rear and fill it up with fluid...

I AM NEVER DOING THIS AGAIN!!! THANK GOD!

that aint no ****... with the stock manifolds they are HELL but with the headers they arent that bad. cept #4 i hate cylinder #4 and i think it hates me too.

i do spark plugs every other oil change...i can get them in and out in a matter of 30 minutes...lol

well it's in the car...took it out for a drive...gotta bleed the brakes because the rears aren't working at all it seems...

and the ebrake light is on even when i put it down it's on...gotta figure out if it's just because the brakes don't work or because something is kinked...

i'll figure it out tomorrow morning or at work sometime...

Everyplace I've called about a rear end asked whether it's drum/disc brakes. Why does this make a difference for compatability. If the used rear end had discs couldn't I just take them off?

yea man...it doesn't matter...either way you're just going to swap them to the setup you have...the rearend i have used to have discs...now it's got my drums.
