  • What kind of fluid for the rear end?

POSI rear-end. What kind of fluid goes in there and about how much? I remember seeing it but can't find it now something like a gear lube and gm posi fluid.

It takes 1.75 quarts. Don't forget the additive for the posi. Use synthetic gear lube+ posi additive.

you will want to use the correct form of lubrication. Running dry is a bad idea.

I don't really know where to drain/put it in. I think theres a plug on the side. I have a new cover for it that has a quick drain plug on it so I think I'll just take off the old cover let the fluid drain out. Put on the new cover let the rear end cover face straight up and fill it up through that drain plug. You just fill it up right? Theres no "fill-line" or anything. I don't think I remember anyone saying anything about fill lines.

Wish me luck. If I mess this up that means no car for me for several months (unless I get it towed).

Yes. Unbolt the cover and you may need to use a flat head screwdriver to pry the cover off. The fluid will come out then, so have something to catch it. Scrape off old gasket, put on new gasket, and tighten cover down. If you have a torque wrench its 26 ft/lbs. I just tightened mine in a star pattern. Buy a $10 fluid pump to get the fluid into the side plug. The side plug has a square indentation, so I used the end of the socket extention to get it off. Its a pretty easy job, but don't half *** it.

Can anyone confirm the 1.75 quarts. I put in two and its not coming out the rear when facing up. Hope its enough. I wont be driving far or long if I do get it in.

Is 9 bolts enough to hold the cover on? I never thought to check the rear-end cover kit I bought. They only gave me 9 bolts. I tried to buy another but clearly it was not automotive grade and it sheared off inside the rear end.

And after 3 hours of working on it I managed to get 1 of the panhard bar bolts loose. Then I said fvck it and put it back together as is and forgot to hook up the ABS wire. Oh well I'll drive around with no ABS, a loose panhard bolt and and 2 loosened torque arm bolts. Maybe if I'm lucky my car will spin wildly out of control and careen over a bridge and blow up.
