what would be a good gear for my car
this car is my driver so i dont want to put to big of gear so i dont loose to much gas mileage. i was thinking a 3.50 or a 3.73
i have a 99 3.8 auto
I'd go with the 3.73 it does affect your mileage a lil bit but u will love the accleration but they are not the best with ur car and if u r that worried about ur mileage get 3.42
See, there's alot of misconception about gears and what they'll do to your gas mileage...high ratio gears may drop your highway mileage 1 or 2 mpg's, but it will increase your city mileage by just as much. this is because the engine doesn't have to work as hard to get the wheels up to speed.
That's why people always say it'll hurt your gas mileage; they only look at the highway mileage...even if all the driving they do is in the city. So, so long as your driving habits stay the same, you'll see an increase in city mileage that will offset whatever you lose in highway mileage...and like you said, you do mostly city driving. And, if you're gonna pay all that money for gears and installation, might as well get the most you can
well r u planin on doin an power adders? cuz if that then u dont wanna go with 2 steep of a gear...for FI id go with 3.42's but if not y not go with the 4.10s or 3.73s

if you get 4.10 gears do you have to have a supercharger or nitrous like the modifications encyclopedia says? and can full exhaust (headers, catback), intake, lsd, and reprogramming be able to support the extra Acceleration with some power?
thats not what i mean. the modifications encyclopedia says that their would be no use in getting 4.10 gears without a supercharger or nitrous because our cars dont have enough power to handle that much acceleration
and i do have all of that including a shift kit too. im justrying to get some better gears now
thats not what i mean. the modifications encyclopedia says that their would be no use in getting 4.10 gears without a supercharger or nitrous because our cars dont have enough power to handle that much acceleration
Give me the link to that, cuz the way you're saying it, that's a load of ****. All of the fast, NA V6's have 4.10s...so which would you rather believe: a random encyclopedia, or real numbers?
