I wish I could put a t56 in mine :( autos suck, looks like I'll just have to get a stall :(

        Autos do not suck
If you get a stall, get gears, then cam & heads, etc

What about a conversion to an auto?

I may just make the swap over to the dark side when I rebuild the car and it will see more track than DD, so no point in bothering with shifting gears on my occasional trip through town.

              Re: Automatic to manual?

lets put this auto -> manual conversion in terms of $$$:

while you are spending $1k+ on your conversion to get a STOCK
manual tranny. I could've put a shift kit, stall, servos, or bought HP Tuners, etc...
in my stock auto, which will make my auto > alot better than your stock manual.

Or I could've just used that $1k+ on a new (and better) auto tranny

                Re: Automatic to manual?

um like i said its my daily driver, im not looking to build some kind of race car. if i was doing that, id start with a v8 in the first place. i prefer stick over autos. im always getting stuck in 3rd or 4th gear and ill need to accelerate or something and i have to wait to my car downshifts to get the power, its annoying. plus manual is alot more fun/cool.

and if i do get the swap done, i can sell the parts that got taken out to pay myself back, so its not as much of a big cost.

                  Re: Automatic to manual?

So far I'm seeing a shopping list of the following things:

                  T5 Tranny w/Bellhousing
                  Flywheel
                  Clutch
                  Pedal Set
                  Center Console
                  Shifter
                  Master Cyl.
                  Tranny Mount
                  Crossmember

I have HPT, so I would need to set te PCM up for a 5 Speed.

Am I missing anything? I'm sick of an auto and want a manual again. I'll be doing the swap with a couple of friends and a lift at Pep Boys, so labor is not a big deal.

                    Re: Automatic to manual?

the last list looks right , i did this about 8 month ago . it's not that hard , i left the cooler lines , wiring in place . just zip tied it out of the way . reflash thepcm for a five speed , my tip is go to gm and get the master cyclinder ,slave w/ lines as an assm. it's not that costly ithink about $140 maybe less . you realy dont have any harness to speak of , just a revrse light switch and vss . the reveres you just tap off the nuetral saftey switch . vss use the same plug . everthing else is siple . the hardest part for me was cutting the hole the right size . to small and it'll hit the shifter .

i just dont undersatnd the negitivity on this board .
If someone wants to do a project just cause you wont want to do it dont say (sell the car and buy another ) . thats why i joined .

ChevyInside, do you have any walkthroughs or tips, perhaps to help make a sticky for those of us looking to do this?

I'm looking to build up the T5 to take around 500 HP/500 TQ for my turbo project later this year.

Do you need the sensor for if the clutch is pressed in or not? Just kinda post up all of the basic steps and tips and hopefully we'll get a sticky to get the questions to stop.

Your going to have to do some building to get a t-5 to handle that much power.
