  • Installed new aluminum driveshaft

Well I installed my 1 piece aluminum driveshaft today. The old steel 2 piece had finally given up the ghost, well the center bearing did to be exact. I had been wondering what in the hell the clanking and knocking noise was. After getting the old shaft out, the rubber insulator between the shaft and the metal carrier was completely busted. When I took the new shaft out of the box, I was kinda freaked out because it looked wayyyy short.....I guess laying on my back under the car in the driveway gave the impression that the shaft was longer than what it was. Anyways, its not a bad upgrade for $140 bux ($120 for the shaft and $20 for the shipping). I'd recommend it.

meh...it's a half-hour operation...the hardest part is fighting the top bolt on the center brace :spank:

I agree, theres no sense in having to do the same work twice, especially if youre having to do it in the driveway like I had to.

ok, if you are gonna do it literally "in one operation" then you're gonna have to tell the shop to not reattach the DS, they will have to push it outta the shop.
Unless you do it while the car is on the lift.

If you get them to push it outta the shop.... well, its not safe jacking up just the rear! The car will turn you into liquid. Hows my negativity? Pessimissism?

Like panther said, it should'nt even take 30 mins. More like 15. You can put the tranny in Neutral so its easier to get the bolts that are blocked by the Torque Arm. The DS slides in/out of the tranny.
                Just be safe

i know that this task is simple, i work on construction equipment, believe me doing a DS is easy, all im saying is that if the DS has to be dropped to do the rearend i might as well just put it in then, you know just killing two birds with one stone :)

LS1-equipped cars frequently get rid of them...eBay or LS1tech is your best bet

first off smoke panther im not tryin to start a war of words here cause its a waste of time and typing, ill be fine swapping my DS on my own, if you want to come and watch the garage is always open :) all i meant with the comment i made was that overall some of the posts you make arent the biggest confidence boosters for some people that are trying to learn, it personally dosent bother me cause i am confident in my abilities of what i can and cant do, so what i was tryin to say in the first post i made in this thread was that when i buy the DS, borla catback, and lowering springs off my friend i am going to swap everything in a weekend since my wrenching time is limited with being away at school, no hard feelings smoke panther :wavey:
