sorry this is for a friends bird

ok i have been thinking about this for a while. here is the story, i will start my car and drive for a bit and my shifting is fine, it goes in to gear easy. once the car is going for a while(if it's cold out it shifts nice for a longer amount of time) but then it will start to get harder and harder to shift. think that this could have anything to do with the atf temp??? that is the only think that i can think of right now.

and if this is true should i just get a tranny cooler?

i think they're a good idea anyway, but i got one because of the aftermarket torque converter, but it did not change the way the car shifts.

if you want the shifts to be firmer, get a shift kit.

yeah, im not sure if it would cure it, but its worth a shot. even if it doesn't cure the problem, you are protecting it from the heat... and therefore should last longer.
It does sound like theres a good chance it would help it, as you said, the shifting gets harder when the tranny seems to get warmer. I'd say go for it.

what you're describing sounds very much like what happens when a DTC P1870 is thrown. But just not often/consecutively enough for the light to come on.

The cooler will help, but don't expect a total "cure"...

also could be a sign of a failing PCS (presure control solenoid)
