  • Transmission differences?

    Hey everybody. I'm really sorry if this has been posted before, but I have searched and I'm not able to find what I need to know (I could be overlooking something though.) Can anybody tell me if there are any differences in the automatic transmissions for a 1995 - 2002 camaro/firebird with the 3.8 v6? I drive a 1997 Camaro, and I have a feeling the transmission is on it's way out. I would prefer to find a tranny out of an 01 - 02 car with lower mileage if it's possible, but I would like to know what would fit first. Thank you all for any help in advance.

      Re: Transmission differences?

      I remember a posting on here about auto trannys. Mine, which I thought was a 4L60E, was in an older 700R case. I think it was discovered that the newer ones have a removeable bell housing to fit different engine types. I'll look around for it...

      Edit -> Here's the other thread. http://forum.camarov6.com/showthread...ighlight=4L60E

      I would check to see if it has the removeable bell housing, and go from there. The internals will be the same, it's just the case that GM used that year that might be in question. I think by 97 they probably had used all the old 700R4 cases.
