Just a thought, because lastr I checked the T56's 6th gear is where reverse is on a V6 Fbody's T5.

Oooooo... that would be nasty indeed. :(

      Re: Grinding in reverse?

aah, i'd imagine it being somewhat of a clunk of going into gear followed by a screech, possible wheel hop and maybe the snapping of an axle, breaking of the gear or some damage to the differential. Maybe all the above plus some nasty suspension damage?

It's pretty hard to get it into reverse while driving forward...

buzzed or not, that makes sence.

i think the t-56's ( lt1/ls1 6 speed trannys ) have a reverse lock-out. i think it has something to do with speed though, after you pass a certain mph you can shift into reverse.

and yea, our reverse is where 6 speeds 6th gear is.

I don't know the reason, but lots of transmissions don't have syncros for reverse. If I had to guess I would say it has something to do with manufacturing/prices.

Yes they do, it's in the PCM code (usually locked out if car is moving more than 5 mph

Other cars have different lockout mechanisms to keep from hitting R accidentially - my friend's 2000 Sunfire with a 5-speed has a ring under the shift knob that has to be pulled up to get into reverse. I call it a "trainer" feature for newbs to manual cars :)

My 1989 Dodge Daytona had that feature as well.

some car i've driven, you have to push the shifter down ( towards the boot) and that puts it in reverse. To get it out you must pull up or out on the shifter

i just recently bought another tranny and it also shortly had the same problem of jumping out of reverse so i got pissed and rebuilt it and upon disassembling my tranny i figured the problem. if you are interested in getting it fixed email me at camarouti9407@yahoo.com and i can let you know exactly wat is wrong from my experience of rebuilding 5 with the same problem.
