  • Transmission/Clutch Question

on my 94 with 3.4/5 speed manual, the last few weeks I have noticed a brief whine apparently coming from the vincinity of my transmission when i first start the car up in the morning, and the car is in neutral of course. Its done it like 4 times in the last two weeks. once, i actually felt it when i was holding on to the shifter. the whine lasts for about 1.5 seconds at the most then stops.

the car shifts fine and the clutch seems OK, but am wondering if one or the other is about to take a crap on me. it has only done it like I said a few times but strange noises make me a bit worried...

so what is this brief whine all about? thanks.

    Re: Transmission/Clutch Question

It's your tranny. It's not about to go out, not if you do something about it first. You need to check your fluid level in your tranny and make sure there is enough gear oil in there, which I'm almost positive if it's giving off a whine then it is significantly low.

You need to check it a.s.a.p. and fill as necessary. I hope you get it done before it's too late. You surely don't want to be driving down the road and then all of a sudden your tranny goes out on you.

If the whine is still there after you have checked and filled that, then you possibly need to flush and refill your clutch fluid and if you do have to take this course of action, make sure that you bleed your clutch afterwards.

Good luck and I hope this helps.
