So I was just changing my diff oil and I don't have any gasket sealer! It says in my haynes manual to use it with the gasket I have... This is important right. Now I am stuck till my friend can bring some by... besides that it is a cinch to do... On one other note have you guys I have some fluid accumulated and maybe dripping in front of the diff above the driveshaft... what could this be?

Re: diff
don't use sealant. Don't worry about the pinion seal if it is just wet and not leaking. They all do that on our cars and will shortly do the same after replacement. I have done several properly by the book and they always still seep. Like said, unless you know what you are doing, leave that seal up to professionals

Re: diff
Standard paper gasket can go in dry, no RTV.
Usually there's some leakage from the vent on top, that will be enough to make the housing "damp" looking.1994 Firebird 3.4<br />15.65 @ 86.8<br /><a href=\"http://www.funkz.net/firebird.htm\" target=\"_blank\">funkz.net/firebird</a><br /><a href=\"http://mywebpages.comcast.net/funkz/timeslips.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Timeslips</a>

Re: diff
Well I did just the gasket and it seemed to drip pretty good... so i ripped it off and used this stuff I had called form-a-gasket which I put on the gasket and now it isn't drippin.... This stuff doesn't get hard it just seals and stays gummy... seemed to do the trick... as for the pinion I am not concerned at this point. its normal... its a gm product.. "self lubricating" LOL
