  • LS1 Rear End

OK, I've done some searching and no luck. I remember reading somewhere that for some strange reason, a LS1 rear-end will not bolt right upto a V6. I think it was the brake lines are different, but I'm not too sure. I've the opportunity to get one from a wrecked 98 LS1 TA with only like 50K on it. So, has anyone done this swap, or know for sure if it will work? I like the rear, it has LSD, nice brakes, fairly new pads, painted calipers, only thing I don't like is the 2.73's, but they will be replaced with 3.73's hopefully. So, should I get the rear or will it not work?

It will bolt right up, no mods needed. If the brake lines dont work, then just use your brakes and swap them to the new rearend. Its VERY easy.

the only issue you will have with it not "bolting right up" is if it's a 3- or 4-channel rear...and that's not something unique to the V8

I've already checked it all out. I think it's 3channel, ABS, no traction control, has everything I'd need. I was just wondering about the brakes lines mainly. If they don't work, is there anyways I could still use the disk brakes? With my new rims, my drums look wierd

Thats what I was trying to tell you. The disc brakes would not work with the brake lines on my car so I had to put my drums back on. It sux, they dont look nice, but they work.

it can be worked around. First, when you take your rear axle off, hang your calipers and take off your rotors. Then, on the incoming axle, break off all the drum-brake crap till you're basically left with just the axle shaft. All the stuff from your disc brakes will swap directly over to the incoming axle.
This is really the best way to swap a rear axle...no need to open the brake lines or dealing with bleeding the system.
