how do I remove the shifter knob for an auto trans on my 2000 camaro?

apply the parking brake, turn the key to run, then put the trans in 1st gear. then you will see a staple clip on the front of the shift knob. use a flathead screwdriver to carefully pry the clip out.

If you are putting on an after market knob from places like AutoZone, please be careful. I put one of those dumb things on and it would come loose while I was driving and fall off. I tried to tighten the screws even tighter and then they stripped. I went through two of those little ****ers before just putting the stock one back on!

Im not sure really, if it lines up ok, it should fit fine, but I have never done it or seen it done. Just try it I guess and see if it works!

My understanding is that they are interchangeable. Just remove the clip and pull the old handle off. The Firebird one should drop right on. Then just reinstall the clip.
