  • Question on swapping trannys

I need to switch my T5 to a 4l60e, due to my left side being weaker it is hard to use the clutch also trying to steer and shift. I had a stroke last year and it looks like I'm not going to recover like I would have hoped for.(lost too many nerves). I have a 96' camaro and I was wondering can I use a automatic from a 2002 v6 or will it be easier to get a tranny within the same year as mine 96 to 97. There are some used ones from 2002 that only have 18,000 miles on them going for what a used one from a 97' with 60,000 miles. So I thought I would ask. Also if their not a direct swap what mods need to be done to do it? Thanks Steve

I'm thinking it will just be the speed sensor on the tranny. I hope. I'm trying to find all the parts I need like shifter, shifter plate ,wiring harness, flexplate, sensors, tranny with converter and a few other small parts. I also want to do the shift kit and servo before it is installed.

        Re: Question on swapping trannys

Well, I found a 01 tranny with 9000 miles for $400 with the converter, order the speartech wiring harness, shifter, shifter plate, transgo shift kit, corvette servo, just need to order a tranny cooler and shift cables. All the other stuff like senors and flexplate I'll get through the dealership where my dad works. Hes trying to talk some of the techs into helping me swap it out. I'm about just under $1000 right now in parts, so it might be cheaper than I thought if all goes well. Thanks for your respones. Steve

I have Hptuners so I can flash the pcm myself, but I do have an extra auto pcm I'm going to use.

I think I'm going to stay with the stock stall for now( running low on funds), I have hose barb fittings coming off the tranny, then will run rubber line to the cooler and zip tie up the rubber lines.
