OK. First off, 97 Camaro: Cat-Back, gutted cat, aluminum DS, and CAI. Next thing I'm thinking of getting is LSD and/or gears. I don't really mind the one wheel wonders, I'm just wondering how bad I'd break the wheels free with 3.73/4.10 gears on an open diffy. I know someone who can install it for fairly cheap, so install's not a problem, only thing I have to worry about is traction on my stock diff, speedo calibration, and gas mileage. I do about 20miles a day on the highway out of about 60 miles. The rest is alot of stop-go traffic, so I'm hoping with 4.10's, I can make up for the lost mileage cuz of highway with all the city driving. So, main questions of this boring post: Should I go with 3.73's or 4.10's, would I be fine on my open diffy, how much of a difference would I see by getting a LSD. I'm working off a $100 week pay check, so it may take me a month or so to get it all (b-day and grad coming up too, so there's more money/presents :D ).

      Why not 4.10's?

I'd think they'd be to high for a good DD

OK. I was thinking getting the LS1 rear with 2 series carrier, then buy 2 sereis 3.73's to put in it. I thought I'd like 4.10's better though, but I was wondering how bad my mileage would be.

I'm not an expert...I think 4.10's would be nice for drag racing and stuff, but if you want performance and a good DD, I'd get 3.73's

i think you should stick with 3.73s, dont bother with your open diff though, kill 2 birds with one stone

OK. Next question. Is the proportional valves used for the LS1 rear end the same, or close to what's used in our V6's drum rear end? I know alot of people have done a direct swap with no problems what-so-ever, but I wanna make sure I get it all right.

                    4.10s. No. Big difference.

Not all V6's came with drum brakes, so matching the channel type would be a higher priority
