Re: 86 camaro limited slip
I was looking into this a while ago as my friend was parting out an 88 IROC. From the information I could find, the third gen rear ends are said to be a little shorter than the fourth gens, so I dont think a rear end swap would work.
But if both carriers are the same series (2 or 3-series), you may be able to put those gears in your rear end. I am not sure of that because I never found any information saying that you can or can't do it. You may want to check to see if its a 9 or 10 bolt differential cover, if it makes a difference. Since its an 86, it is probably a 10 bolt cover.1996 Polo Green Metallic Camaro:
SLP CAI, Carsound/Magnaflow 3\" in/out cat, Flowmaster 2.5\" cat-back... sounds great

Re: 86 camaro limited slip
iirc, seires 2 carriers came in the 3rd gens around 89 or so. That 86 is most likely a series 1 carrier.
researching now & will edit in the answer.
edit: make sure the spline count for diff unit & axles is same...... 4th gen probly has 28, 3rd gen 26Last edited by 3.4 slow to go; 04-15-2007, 08:29 PM.1978 Formula 461 in progress of being built

Re: 86 camaro limited slip
I'm nearly positive that the 3rd gens have a different wheel offset, which I would imagine would force the rear end to be shorter since the cars are about the same width... I could be wrong but just an idea\'97 Camaro M5 Y87 3.23 LSD, homebrew CAI, highfloCat, Flowmaster catback, Pacesetter headers, specstage3 clutch and aluminum flywheel, !egr, 2kW system.

Possible L67 bottom end w/ abbott heads and a turbo in the works... gotta do more homework

Re: 86 camaro limited slip
from what I've read, the 4th gen axles are about 2" longer than the 3rd gen.... thus teh need for the wheel spacers when using 4th gen rims on 3rd gen cars.1978 Formula 461 in progress of being built
