  • Clutch enganges at top of pedal travel...

I have a 96 3.8. When I push the clutch pedal in, the clutch disengages almost instantly, and when I release the pedal, the clutch engages right when the pedal is fully released. When I am in forth gear at low rpm and romp on it, the clutch slips.

Either something is wrong with the hydraulics and the clutch is not recieving enough pressure to grab because the engage/disengage point is at the top of the pedal throw, or my clutch is gone. Any suggestions? Thanks!

First, try bleeding the clutch hydraulic system. Do a search, you'll find all info you need for doing that. This is the cheapest and easiest attempt to fix the problem.

If that doesn't work, then I'd say that you're looking to replace the clutch it'self and/or clutch accessories (slave, clutch master cylinder) reeeal soon!

thats where my clutch's engage point is as well, been there since i bought it. Im not positive on our cars, but you can also adjust the clutch pedal to where you want it to engage.....ive never tried it, probably should. ive bled the hydraulic system and that makes a world of difference on engage point. what ive noticed, the lower the fluid the lower the clutch engages. ive still got the stock clutch at 100k mi and it grabs fine, knock on wood

our clutches engage there, at the very top. last 2 inches or so.

ive driven 3 and talked to a few people, thats how its sopossed to be.

i dont think you can adjust the stock master cylinder, maybe an adjustable after market mclode one will work on our cars. i know some ls1 guys run them.

if you step on it and it slips, odds are the clutch is shot. i dont see how bleeding it is going to help.

as far as i know the 3.4 is a self adjusting hydraulic clutch, and i believe the 3.8 is too bc the only diff is the line from the master and the slave. thecar and or pedal hve no adjustments.

I just got done replacing everything in the hydraulic system, all new components, fresh bleed.. done professionally and a new clutch and thats where it engages/disengages, it's weird.. but as far as that goes its normal.

Thanks everyone. I did a clutch, master cylinder and slave cylinder install with fresh fluid with my dad and it had a loose pedal at first with it engaging about 1/3 from the floor, but after a week its back to a normal pedal and engaging at the top, but it doesn't slip anymore. I guess problem solved and I live with it engaging at a retarded position. If anyone reads this with a clutch which engages in the middle or lower to the floor please let me know, but I am happy with a grippy clutch. By the way I bought an Exedy OEM replacement.
