Just thought I would post this.... so I go to back out of the driveway this morning and thh shifter would not go into reverse. I'm like WTF? so I go inside, come back out and try it and it goes? so I'm driving down the road and 1st, 2nd, and wont go into third. Well eventually I make it to work. Same thing on the way home. I'm thinkin great tranny, expensive! so I take the center console out take the shifter out. The shifter has a ball on the end and that goes into this bowl type deal (sorry My lingo in that area is not so good). Well I see this plastic piece in where the bowl moves to go into gears. I'm guessing it goes around the ball/ into the bowl to keep wear down? so I stuck it back in but I am thinking I need to replace this. Do I get this at a parts store or the dealership, or do I not worry about it? Blldogg or any other peeps know?

Re: shifter
You aren't going to be able to get that piece at a parts store. It comes in the shifter kit.
I've never actually tried to get one by itself at a parts store, but I'm doubting they will sell it alone. You can try an auto parts store, and if they will not sell one alone, I say go to a junk yard and happy hunting.

Re: shifter
i know what your talking about...not answering your question but asking one.....what was wrong with your stock one....was in broken or something? i dont see how it can cause bad shifting....i was looking at mine today....tranny flush....and i dont think it can cause bad tranny issue...but then again im no tranny expert...:twak:

Re: shifter
no, it's really more simple than any of this. sometimes mine does the same thing. next time your car won't go into R just put it in first, move forward a couple of inches, and it should go right into reverse. try this next time.
and always shift into a forward gear before shifting to reverse to avoid the "clunk" noise. either that, or while in neutral, let your foot off the clutch, then push the clutch again and shift into R.
to answer the not going into third question, i really can't. but that might solve half of your question hopefully.

Re: shifter
no no. There was literally a plastic piece keeping the shifter from moving. I put it back on but I think it is worn... I went to napa and baxter(oregon parts store only) and they did not have it, they said I would have to buy the whole kit. I will see how much chevy wants for the little piece or I will just live with it and if it happens again I will know what it is... or its an excuse to get a short throw shifter
