  • Transmission Filter Seal

So I was working on draining my transmission fluid and then putting in a new filter/seal today. I ran into the problem of the seal being EXTREMELY tight. I did get it off however, but how the hell do I put the new one in. It is so tight I have no idea how to get it in. Is there a tool or trick I do not know?

They are very hard to get out sometimes. I left mine in when I serviced my tranny.

lubricate it with transjel if you have some, if not, use tranny fluid and gently tap it in with a socket and hammer. be gentle. :)

with a socket on the wrench? or just the socket. I spent like 3 hours trying to get it in. Lol i may just need to buy another kit and try with a fresh seal.

you get a socket that fits the seal and hammer it in.

I had the same problem and had to hammer the side of the seal to bend it in. I just used the socket and hammered the new one in. I think next time the old seal stays in.

BLLDOGG what you said work. I was able to eventually bang the seal into the housing. It was such a PITA! And then the filter itself was a snug fit and I had to tap that in with a hammer too... alotta work for an oil change.

Haha, I changed the tranny fluid in my car a few months ago and did a very messy job. I heard scratching the bore of the housing was a no-no. I basically gouged it. Then I hammered in my seal. So far so good, but my hopes aren't too high for my tranny.

I have done more GM trans filters and fluid changes than I can count. Last year I found using a Special pry bar worked the best!!! Heres the link for the one I chose.

you have to be careful and not score the bore with that

Those pins are great persuaders for all kinds of stuff. I am a bit jealous I don't have that kit of 4. I found a 2 pack on clearance at a hw store usually but they are hard to find locally. I worked for a company that basically put up 40 foot tall erector sets and these things made life so much easier

haven't tried em on a trans pan seal yet tho... still deciding whether I want to tackle it myself or have a shop do the whole thing when installing a sonnax kit
