  • Do I need a new clutch?

    Hey Guys,

Yesterday when I was driving my '98 3.8 Camaro was doing something weird. When I gave it a pretty good amount of gas, the engine would rev up really fast, but I would not speed up really fast. It was almost as if the clutch was slipping. Is this a sign that I'm going to need a new clutch really soon? I checked my fluid levels, and they were all good. This only happens on hard acceleration. Any ideas?

That is what it sounds like. Try this... Start from a dead stop in second gear and se if it slips. If it does then you most likely will need a clutch soon.

I tried starting in 2nd, and I can get going, but again, it revs up way higher than it should. I can put in it 5th gear doing about 25mph, give it some gas, and it was rev right up.

Put it in 5th gear, at like 1500 rpms, then floor it and see if the clutch slips.

Next thing to do is, check clutch fluid if its, black, swap it out. See if that helps, if not then you likely need a new clutch.
