I want to get a take-off lsd and i was wondering what exactly i have to look for. I would like to go with 3.42s. since it my only car and i will be driving back and forth to school soon. Is it hard if i gt a take off unit to install. I mean can i do i in my garage. My dad was a gm service tech and know a good bit about working on cars so i think we can do it. just wanna make sure that we can do it. Thanks

LSD and 3.42s refer to two completely different mechanical parts. LSD is the carrier, 3.42 is the gear ratio on the ring and pinion.

Swapping carriers is easy, you just have to take caution and make sure the shims are placed back exactly as they came out.

i realie that they are two separate parts. i was saying that i want a lsd with 3.42 gears. i am ting to find a whole unit

Then what you'll want to do is an axle swap, not a carrier swap. Start diving around in junkyards and camping out on eBay

Hey, set up an account over on fullthrottlev6.com and PM chets bird. He's looking to swap a rear with a zexel torsen/posi with all new carrier bearings etc etc with 3 73's for a stock one.
