  • Pro 5.0 Shifter Purchased

From LMPerformance in Florida. Their website has some cool goodies, and their price was the best I found for it. (Didn't look all over the place, but did check the bigger websites like thunderracing, etc.) I'll be sure to write a review when I'm done because I couldn't seem to find a whole lot of info about the short shifters. All I know is that everytime I read something from someone who had gotten a short shifter, they were extremely pleased with it and had a more fun time driving the car. That was my justification.

Make sure you adjust the stops when you install it.

i've had a few short shifters (b&m etc) and i was never happy until i got the pro 5.0. it's alsome. but you do have to adjust it. i didn't adjust mine when i first got it and was driving down a blvd( 55 mph) and i didn't have 1st 3rd or 5th gear. i was freaking out thinking i blew my tranny. But all i had to do was adjust the front screw. good luck

If you want to review the pro 5.0 more power to you, but it's pretty much the same as the hurst. There is a ton of information about all the shifters in older threads. When I say a ton of information I mean it is outlined what the differences are and in the end it will all come down to how much you want to spend and what your personal preference is.

I wouldn't adjust the stops. I would just pull them out. I lost 2, 4, and reverse a few das after I installed my hurst. That was the last day the stops were in. I ran it for 3 to 4 years with no problems. If you manage to hit the stops once properly adjusted you are shifting way harder than you have to anyway.

Adjust the stops I shall. HokieBird, I did find some info on the shifters, but there wasn't a designated review of any of them. As Kristen said, I did find some members of this website had installed both the Pro 5.0 and one of the other brands, and preferred the 5.0. That's why I went with it. Not saying this site isn't helpful, because this website IS my help when it comes to my car. Apparently, LMP already sent it out this afternoon, so I hope it comes by Friday at the latest. I'll post again when I get it in. Thanks for the responses guys!

BTW HokieBird, are there ever any F-body meets in Northern VA? Sometime this summer, if there is, I'd like to come up there. Just wondering...

The hurst has a review here: http://forum.camarov6.com/showthread.php?t=63725

If you want to write a review of the Pro 5.0 go for it. The difference from stock will shock you. It's like driving a different car. I'm sure you'll be happy.

There are random meets around here, but none associated with this site. I can shoot you an email with some other forums you may want to check out if it's something your interested in.

That's a good writeup! Thanks for the link... I can't wait to get mine installed. I'm 100% sure I'm going to love it once it's installed. I'll probably end up cutting some of the threads off because I read somewhere that it has some extra threading where the knob is. Thanks for the answers, and sure hit me an email up, or just on here if you want if there are any decent sized meets. That would be a blast.

Get a hexagon cutting die, thread it down more, and chop even more off.

                    Re: Pro 5.0 Shifter Purchased

i hacked off a tad more than half an inch and still had more than anough thread left to screw on the stock shifter nob.

make sure you tighten the handle to the stick too.

it'll take some getting used to before your'll like it, but you'll love it after a week.

Anyone using the Proform shortshifter? Summit has it for $115 online right now, and if it is a good shorty, I will buy it at that price.

dont go cheap on your shifter, i highly rec a 5.0 or a hurst. Trust me you will be much more happy spending the extra ~50 bucks on a high quality shifter

Installed, and it's a lot more fun to drive... When the car is running properly... I'm so upset about my car being the way it is right now.

BTW, I cut off about 5/8 of an inch, and it made the shifter even shorter. It's a good purchase. Exhaust is my next undertaking. Just bought some jet hot pacesetters off of ebay for a really good price brand new.
