  • to worry about?

I have 2000 3.8 auto with 85000 on it, so today I was driving around and suddenly it started to shift hard, like from 1st to second it would jump a little and same on other gears. I came home and put some transmission oil in it and it was back to smooth. the thing is I put oil in couple month ago should I be worried?

Was your tranny fluid level low? Or did you just dump in more fluid without checking the level?

.....and put some transmission oil in it...
        How much is some?

Without the proper amount of oil in the trans there is the potential to induce air into the pump and cooling circuit which can cause a rise in temperature because of a reduction of oil flow. When the trans temp sensor "senses" a certain high temp, it will command the pressure regulator to full high pressure to increase the cooling flow through the cooling circuit. That high pressure leads to the hard shifting that you experienced.

You need to start worrying when the hard shifting happens but the oil level is ok. Then you need to come back and do some post searches.

            Re: to worry about?

210 is normal. If anything, a lower the engine coolant temperature would assist in cooling the tranny (the cooler for the tranny is located in the radiator).

Check under the tranny and see if it's leaking fluid. If it is, chances are you need a new pan gasket.
